What is BYOD?
BYOD is a model where students use their own digital devices to access departmental networks and learning platforms at school. Devices are used in class to strengthen learning in line with the Department of Education's 21st Century learning guide.
The purpose of BYOD is to build a highly engaging learning environment that prepares students to think critically, solve problems and adapt confidently in a changing world. Students will continue to use traditional tools such as books, pencils and paper, alongside digital tools. This balanced approach maximises learning for every child.
In September 2022, our community consultation showed strong support for introducing BYOD from Years 2 to 6, with iPads preferred in Years 2 to 4 and laptops in Years 5 and 6. To help families manage costs, the school adopted a phased rollout.
In 2025, further consultation with parents, students and staff shaped several key updates to our BYOD program from 2026.
FROM 2026
- BYOD Year Levels: BYOD continues for students in Years 2 to 6.
- Device Choice in Upper Years: Windows laptops in Years 5 and 6 are optional. Students may continue using their iPad until the end of Year 6.
- Equity Support: The equity bank has expanded. Families may apply once a year for a 6-month loan so every student can participate.
- Information Access: The school website will feature a student made video showing how devices are used at each year level and offering guidance on screen time.
- Parent Sessions: In addition to our annual Term 4 information session, the school will now offer BYOD sessions every term to support new enrolments.
